Senate Armed Services Committee Member Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) gave the keynote address at a Brookings Institution event on the implications of Defense Department budget cuts set for January 2013 as a result of sequestration. Sequestration refers to the automatic federal budget cuts required by the Budget Control Act of 2011. She discussed the effect of the cuts on jobs and the economy, and congressional proposals that could replace the legislation. After her speech, she answered audience members' questions. close
