A 1962 Universal Newsreel showed President John F. Kennedy’s tour of several sites involved in research and development of the U.S. space program. The tour included a stop at Huntsville, Alabama; Cape Canaveral, Florida; Houston, Texas, where he gave a speech on September 12, 1962, at Rice University and toured the Manned Spacecraft Center; and the McDonald plant in St. Louis to see the Mercury and Gemini space capsules. He was shown speaking to people including Wernher Von Braun and Walter Schirra. close
