Family, friends, and colleagues of former Senator George McGovern (D-SD) attended a memorial prayer service in his honor. Senator McGovern, the 1972 Democratic presidential candidate, also helped establish the modern day food stamp program, led the opposition in Congress to the Vietnam War, and brought many well-known figures into politics for the first time, including President Bill Clinton. Speakers included Vice President Joe Biden and Senator Tim Johnson (D-SD). Recordings of former Ambassador McGovern were played. Music was provided by the band East of Westreville. close
