Jay Carney briefed reporters and answered questions on a number of issues. He said President Obama’s latest offer on tax rates was different from what he promised during his reelection campaign, but he rejected House Speaker Boehner’s announcement of a “Plan B” to avert parts of the fiscal cliff." He also said that President Obama met with Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) to talk about gun control in the wake of the Connecticut elementary school shooting.

“Fiscal cliff” referred to the impending tax increases and budget cuts at the end of 2012 if Congress failed to reach a new budget agreement. close
