Telephone lines were open for comments on the negotiations to avoid the “fiscal cliff,” impending tax increases and sequestration budget cuts in January 2013 if Congress failed to reach a new budget agreement. Members of the House Republican Conference had just completed a meeting where House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) decided not to call for a vote on his “Plan B” proposal to avoid impending “fiscal cliff” tax increases and budget cuts at the end of 2012. The bill would have raised income tax rates for those making $1 million a year or more. close
