Janet Yellen, vice chair of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve, and Matthias Machnig, minister of economy for the German Federal State of Thuringia, discussed the U.S. and European economies and their relationships. Ms. Yellen focused on factors contributing to a weak U.S. economic recovery, unemployment, and Federal Reserve monetary policy. Minister Machnig discussed the Eurozone financial crisis, major challenges of the European economy, and the impact of environmental and industrial policies on full employment and prosperity.

“Restoring Shared Prosperity and Full Employment” wsa the luncheon program of the “Trans-Atlantic Agenda for Shared Prosperity” economic summit held by the AFL-CIO with the Friedrich Ebert Foundation and the Macroeconomic Policy Institute (IMK) of the Hans Boeckler Foundation at the AFL-CIO headquarters. close
