Secretary Leon Panetta made farewell remarks to Defense Department staff. Regarding North Korea’s announcement that it conducted a third nuclear test, he said the country posed a “serious threat” to the U.S, He also urged Congress to end the uncertainty posed by looming sequestration defense budget cuts scheduled to happen on March 1. He said his highest priority in his final days as defense secretary would be protecting soldiers and civilian employees from the effects of sequestration. close
