Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano outlined some of the effects on her department of sequestration scheduled to happen March 1, 2013. She said the budget cuts would add to wait times at airports, and Americans would feel the impact in the upcoming weeks. She responded to questions, including on immigration and border security.

Secretary Napolitano spoke at the beginning of the White House daily briefing. After her remarks Jay Carney briefed reporters and answered questions. Only Secretary Napolitano’s remarks were shown.

“Sequestration,” a legal procedure in which every federal agency has the same percentage of its budget cut in order to take back deficit spending, was agreed to in the Budget Control Act of 2011 and scheduled to happen on March 1, 2013. close
