Cuban President Raul Castro addressed the opening of the Cuban National Assembly. He announced that his new five year term would be his last, marking 2018 as the end of the Castro family reign in Cuba. President Castro introduced Miguel Diaz, the new first vice-president likely to become the next president of Cuba. He highlighted the progress of the Cuban parliament and the advancement of women and Afro-Cubans in the executive branch. He also discussed proposed changes to the Cuban election process, including adding term limits and age limits.
