Aaron Klein talked about financial regulatory reform. He described his experiences as the chief economist of the U.S. Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee and gave a chronology of the 2002 accounting crisis through the 2008 financial/mortgage crisis. A former Obama administration Treasury official, he said that the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) was needed in 2008 to avoid a recession and that the U.S. economy would have been worse off without it. He also talked about crafting and helping secure passage of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010.
