Panelists talked about the effectiveness of the IMET (International Military Education and Training) program in Asia. The mission of IMET is to strengthen military partnerships and improve the skills of foreign officers by pairing them with U.S. military counterparts. Wallace Gregson argued that IMET, when combined with other security assistance activities, was a good investment. John Sifton said IMET was useful in some countries but not in others, citing Cambodia as an example that was not a good use.
