Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman General Martin Dempsey, and Undersecretary Robert Hale testified about the president’s fiscal year 2014 defense budget request. It includes almost $527 billion in discretionary spending, nearly a 1 percent decrease over FY 2013. Topics included military acquisitions, ship/helicopter programs, East Coast missile interceptor sites, cyber security, military sexual assault, electronic health record integration spending, and funding for National Guard programs in New York and Florida. Secretary Hagel also made remarks about the Boston Marathon bombing the previous day and U.S.-Israel relations. close
