Harold Holzer spoke about the Battle of Gettysburg, which took place July 1-3, 1863, and is considered the bloodiest battle ever on U.S. soil. He talked about his books: The Civil War in 50 Objects and Lincoln: How Abraham Lincoln Ended Slavery in America, and argued that memory of the Civil War is built on facts and artifacts.

The talk, "Lincoln and Freedom in Film and Fact: A Look at History

and the Movies, Spielberg and the Civil War," took place during an event commemorating 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, sponsored by Gettysburg National Military Park and the Gettysburg Foundation. close
