Treasury Secretary Jack Lew and other officials briefed reporters and answered questions on a new annual “Trustees Report.” The report detailed the future financial health of Social Security and Medicare, estimating that the federal Medicare Trust Fund would be exhausted in 2026, two years later than the previous report. Secretary Kathleen Sebelius cited the reduced hospital readmissions, fraud and payment changes as reasons for the improved Medicare outlook. close
