Panelists talked about the life and legacy of Medgar Evers. Medgar Evers was a Mississippi field officer for the NAACP when he was gunned down in his driveway by a sniper on June 12, 1963. The Newseum hosted this event to mark the 50th anniversary of his death. Panelists included Myrlie Evers, widow of Medgar Evers, Julian Bond, former chairman of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), and Jerry Mitchell, an investigative reporter whose work helped convict segregationist Byron De La Beckwith in Evers' murder. close
