James Bamford talked about the history of government public surveillance programs, and recent revelations acknowledging the existence of on-going Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISA)-authorized, top-secret public surveillance programs. These included an order that Verizon turn over records of all phone calls originating and terminating between the U.S. and abroad to the National Security Agency; and the “PRISM” program, which allowed the NSA to monitor the Internet usage of foreign nationals overseas who use any of nine U.S.-based internet providers such as Microsoft and Google. close
