Secretary Chuck Hagel and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair Martin Dempsey testified on the Defense Department fiscal year 2014 defense budget request. Among the issues discussed were sexual assaults in the military, sequestration and other ways the military plans to achieve cost savings, and contractor Edward Snowden’s leak of National Security Agency (NSA) surveillance programs. Secretary Hagel in his testimony said the Pentagon was reviewing all private military contractors and their associated costs in reaction to news reports concerning Mr. Snowden’s salary. close
