Richard Arnold, chairman of the Nevada Indian Commission, talked about the Stewart Indian School, located the Stewart area of Carson City, Nevada. The school was one of many created around the United States near the end of the 19th century to assimilate Native American children. He spoke about the school’s history and shared a story about his own mother’s experiences as a student there.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2013 LCV Cities Tour” in Carson City, Nevada, from July 8-12 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Charter Communications local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events and non-fiction author segments air on BookTV on C-SPAN2. close
