Jennifer Bryan, director of the Nimitz Library Special Collections and Archives at the United States Naval Academy, talked about the collection of Thomas O. Paine, a scientist and advocate of exploration. Paine served aboard the USS Pompon, where his love for submarines and submarine warfare inspired him to start his collection of books and periodicals. Upon his death in 1992, his wife donated the books to the U.S. Naval Academy.
