Jen Psaki delivered the State Department briefing to reporters. The main topic was the possibility of U.S. military strikes against Syria in response to Syrian use of nerve gas against civilians. Reporters asked why the president was seeking congressional approval when he said that he had the authority to order a strike without it. Other topics included the make-up of the Syrian opposition and Russian President Putin calling Secretary Kerry a liar.
