Sylvia Ann Hewlett talked about her book, Forget a Mentor, Find a Sponsor: The New Way to Fast-Track Your Career, in which she argues that to reach leadership positions in the U.S., especially for women, the key is to find a senior-level person who will champion your career and become your advocate. She argued that mentors may build your self-esteem, but will not help you move up. During the event, held at the New York Stock Exchange, the author was joined by Edward Gilligan, president of American Express, Jennifer Steinmann, Chief Talent Officer at Deloitte, and Rosalind Hudnell, vice president of human resources at Intel. close
