The 78th annual Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards were presented to books that have “made important contributions to our understanding of racism and our appreciation of the rich diversity of human cultures.” Jury chair Henry Louis Gates, Jr. presented a lifetime achievement award to Nigerian author and Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka. Awards were also presented to Andrew Solomon, author of Far From the Tree: Parents, Children, and the Search for Identity, Kevin Powers, author of [The Yellow Birds: A Novel, Laird Hunt, author of Kind One: A Novel, and poet Eugene Gloria for My Favorite Warlord. The Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards took place at the Ohio Theatre in Cleveland. Ohio. close
