CBS News' Lara Logan moderated a panel discussion on U.S. interests in the future of Afghanistan as American military forces were preparing to end a 12-year military presence in the country at the end of 2014. Topics included the Taliban and al Qaeda, the impact of a possible Afghan civil war on the region, and the perception of a U.S. exit from the country by extremist groups. Ms. Logan was critical of U.S. policy, citing numerous remaining challenges, while Ashley Tellis described positive improvements in the economy and education of the country. close
