Five Days at Memorial
Sheri Fink talked about her book, Five Days at Memorial: Life and Death in a Storm-Ravaged Hospital, in which she chronicles what happened at Memorial Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana in the days following Hurricane Katrina. She says that due to a total loss of power caused by the flooding, doctors at Memorial had to come up with an evacuation plan and pick the order in which patients were rescued. In total, 45 people died in the hospital, including some 20 patients who were euthanized by doctors. Ms. Fink spoke at an event hosted by New America NYC. close
