Panelists discussed possibilities for a breakthrough in U.S.-Iran relations. They panelists, including a former Iranian presidential candidate and a former official at the American embassy in Iran, talked about maintaining the momentum created by the election of the moderate Hassan Rouhani as Iranian president, President Obama’s engagement policy with Tehran, and recent events in Geneva and at the United Nations General Assembly. They focused on the upcoming November 7, 2013, round of talks in Geneva about Iran’s nuclear program. Topics included the effectiveness of sanctions, Iran’s links to terrorist groups, human rights, and relations with Syria and Israel.
