Stephanie Mencimer, who writes about legal affairs and domestic policy for Mother Jones Magazine, talked about the decrease in value of monthly welfare benefits since the welfare system was reformed in 1996. She said that the system has not expanded to meet current needs, with the welfare budget remaining at $16 billion since 1996. She discussed some of the articles about welfare and poverty she has written, and responded to telephone calls and electronic communications.
