Governor Bill Clinton (D-AR) and Senator Al Gore (D-TN) and their wives appeared at a campaign rally at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee. After moving through the crowd and ascending to the stage amid the strains of country music and the cheers of the audience, Sen. Gore introduced Hillary Clinton and Tipper Gore, who gave brief remarks. Gov. Clinton, opening with a series of funny country song titles, called for change in the nation’s economic and social policies from those of the Republican party. Gov. Clinton mentioned the need for family leave policies and health care reform in his remarks. The candidates, their wives, and Sen. Gore’s parents stayed on stage following Gov. Clinton’s remarks to receive the crowd’s applause while the songs “Rocky Top” and “God Bless America” played in the auditorium. The candidates left the stage through the audience, shaking hands and greeting voters. close
