Cultural Director Quanah Matheson talked about the origins of the Coeur d’Alene Tribe and how they came to embrace the Catholic religion as he gave a tour of the “Sacred Encounters: Father De Smet & the Indians of the Rocky Mountain West” exhibit at Coeur d' Alene’s Old Mission State Park. Tribal Council Chair Chief Allen explained how the tribe governs itself and its significance to the city. The tribe, also known as the Schitsu’umsh, or the "the discovered people", has lived on the land now known as Coeur d’Alene for thousands of years.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2013 LCV Cities Tour” in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, from November 4-7 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Time Warner Cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. close
