Alan Rusbridger testified before the British Home Affairs Committee about his Guardian newspaper’s decision to publish leaked U.S. National Security Agency surveillance files submitted by former government contractor Edward Snowden. The Guardian received heavy criticism for publishing intelligence information that British spy chiefs called “damaging” to British security. Mr. Rusbridger defended his newspaper’s actions, explained the reasons the Guardian printed the story, and said that any editor would have made the same decision. close
