President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama participated in the lighting of the menorah at a Hanukkah reception in the White House. President Obama remarked on the words coined for the confluence of Thanksgiving and Hanukkah and showed a turkey menorah made by one of the guests. After the blessing by Rabbi Lurer, President Obama helped children light the Statue of Liberty Menorah designed by the late Manfred Anson. close
