Secretary General Ban Ki-moon spoke to reporters at United Nations headquarters in New York City following news of the death of former South African President Nelson Mandela. Nelson Mandela, who had been in failing health for some time, was 95. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon gave his condolences to Nelson Mandela’s family and the people of South Africa. He said that Nelson Mandela was “a giant for justice” and in honor of his life-long work for freedom and human rights, called on everyone to keep working for a better and just world. close
