Witnesses testified on the domestic remotely-piloted aerial vehicle industry. They focused on economic potential and legal hurdles facing the commercialization of the drone industry as the federal government moves toward allowing the technology to be tested at a handful of different sites. Topics included technical, privacy, and administrative issues. Professor Missy Cummings said the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) was unlikely to meet its deadlines for allowing more drones in the skies. Intelligence Committee Chair Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) also testified, saying armed drones should be banned on U.S. soil. close
