C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2014 LCV Cities Tour” in Olympia, Washington, from January 13-16 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Jack Nisbet, author of The Collector: David Douglas and the Natural History of the Northwest, talked about naturalist and explorer David Douglas, a Scottish botanist and namesake for the Douglas Fir Tree, who explored North America and Hawaii in search of plants that could be grown in his native land. Topics included Douglas' adventures, as well as his findings, which were part of the first systematic collection of flora and fauna in the Northwest.
