Hap Arnold Military historian Bill Yenne talked about his book, Hap Arnold: The General Who Invented the U.S. Air Force, in which he recounts the career of General Henry Harley “Hap” Arnold, commanding general of the U.S. Air Force during World War II. In his book, the author reports that General Arnold is often considered “the father of the U.S. Air Force,” for his expansion of the military branch during the war and the technological and strategic advances deployed under his command.
