Income Inequality and Poverty
C-SPAN Radio’s Nancy Calo previewed Sunday morning shows at the conclusion of the program.
Scott Winship talked about his research published in Politico.com, “Actually, We Won the War on Poverty, on income inequality and poverty. He argued that much of the progress made since President Johnson’s declaration of a "War on Poverty” was made in the 1990s as a result of conservative policies. He said that in the 1990s, when the economy was strong, income inequality was already growing, and it has only became a political issue in the period since the recession that began in 2008, a period in which lower and middle income families have “not been doing great.” Other topics included the state of the economy in 2014 and the factors that contribute to income inequality.
