The British House of Commons held a debate on Scotland’s place in the United Kingdom. Scotland would be holding a referendum on September 18, 2014, to decide whether or not to separate from the U.K. Members of the three main parties as well as a few from the Scottish National Party spoke, mainly on why Scotland should stay in U.K. Scottish National Party member Pete Wishart said that Scotland had an opportunity to become a “self-governing nation once again and to walk tall in the world with national self-respect and dignity.”
