Historian Joshua Zeitz talked about his book, Lincoln’s Boys: John Hay, John Nicolay, and the War for Lincoln’s Image, in which he examines Abraham Lincoln’s presidential tenure through the eyes of his secretaries, John Hay and John Nicolay. In his book, the author suggests that these two men, who were closer to Lincoln than anyone outside of his immediate family, were witness to the President’s public and private moments during the Civil War. Following the President’s death, Hay and Nicolay helped shape the way Lincoln would be remembered with their biography of the 16th President. Joshua Zeitz spoke at DeKalb County Public Library in Decatur, Georgia. close
