President Obama and King Abdullah II of Jordan spoke to reporters before they held a meeting at the Sunnylands Annenberg Retreat in Rancho Mirage, California. President Obama announced one billion dollars in loan guarantees to help Jordan cope with the hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees. The president also extended a five-year agreement that provides annual U.S. aid to Jordan. He also reiterated his position that “a political transition” was needed in Syria and that President Assad must go. King Abdullah expressed his gratitude for the support the U.S. had given to Jordan and commended the U.S. for its role in trying to foster a peace agreement between Israelis and Palestinians. He also expressed his country’s cooperation for a resolution to the civil war in Syria. close
