Mr. Wright was 12 years-old when his cousin from Chicago was kidnapped and murdered while visiting relatives in Mississippi. Emmett Till was taken from his uncle’s home in the middle of the night on August 25, 1955. Days later his body was found in the Tallahatchie River. No one was ever convicted of the murder.
This interview was part of an oral history project on the Civil Rights Movement of the mid-20th century initiated by Congress in 2009, conducted by the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, the Library of Congress, and the Southern Oral History Program at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. The interview was conducted in the Chicago suburb of Argo, Illinois, by Joseph Mosnier.

Simeon Wright, author of Simeon’s Story: An Eyewitness Account of the Kidnapping of Emmett Till, talked about the kidnap and murder of his cousin, Emmet Till.
