Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, Joint Chiefs Chair General Martin Dempsey, and Defense Undersecretary Robert Hale testified before the House Armed Services Committee on the fiscal year 2015 defense budget request. Topics included Russian’s intervention in Ukraine, Army troop size reductions, base closings, the new START treaty, the impact of sequestration budget cuts on readiness. and National Security Agency leaks by former contractor Edward Snowden. Secretary Hagel told the committee that the vast majority of documents stolen by Edward Snowden were related to military capabilities and would take two years of assessment and billions of dollar to overcome the loss of security. close
