General Joseph Dunford Jr., the commander of coalition troops in Afghanistan, testified on troop presence in Afghanistan post-2014. General Dunford said that Afghan forces would “deteriorate” if the U.S. completely pulled out at the end of 2014. He speculated that 8,000- 12,000 troops would be required to stay in Afghanistan after 2014 and that the U.S. should provide two-thirds of them. Additional topics included gains in education and security in Afghanistan and the U.S.-Afghanistan bilateral security agreement that had not yet been signed. close
