Senate Intelligence Committee Chair Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) in a Senate floor speech accused the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of searching a congressional computer system. She said the CIA had improperly searched a stand-alone computer network established for Congress as part of its investigation into allegations of CIA abuse in a George Bush-era detention and interrogation program. She defended her committee’s work and challenged the CIA as she sought to set the record straight amid various reports of disputes between Congress and the agency. Senator Patrick Leahy afterward said that out of the thousands of speeches he had heard in his 40 years in the Senate, none were as important as the one she had just given. close
