Witnesses testified on ways the U.S. could expand domestic energy production, increase its natural gas exports, and build better relations with Eastern European countries. Lithuania’s energy minister a consensus should be reached on how to diversify and create alternative routes of natural gas supply to Europe. Committee Chair Mary Landrieu (D-LA) in her opening statement said said Russian President Vladimir Putin was using his monopoly on energy supplies to advance his political agenda and that she would redouble her efforts in ensuring the U.S. becomes an energy superpower. close
