Representatives from Target, Visa and the Federal Trade Commission were among the witnesses who testified at a hearing on security breaches at Target and the University of Maryland where people’s personal information was compromised. Panelists recommended that Congress pass a law to make dealing with consumer data breaches more unified. The suggested that government could help with international coordination of security. They also talked about the use of EMV chip cards that are already used in Europe. “EMV” stands for Europay, MasterCard and Visa, a global standard for inter-operation of integrated circuit cards. close
