Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel made a statement about the shooting by a U.S. soldier at Fort Hood, Texas, on April 2, 2014. Four people died in the attack and sixteen others were injured. He defended the military’s handling of base security, saying the Pentagon had implemented numerous security recommendations since the previous year’s Navy Yard shooting, but that the Defense Department would be studying the Fort Hood shooting for lessons to be learned.
