President Obama, military leaders, and clergy spoke at a memorial service for the three people killed in a shooting at the Fort Hood military base April 2, 2014. The boots, helmets and rifles, and service photographs of the slain soldiers were lined up before the speaker' platform. In his remarks, President Obama spoke of the November 2009 shooting that also took place at Fort Hood, saying, “What is so painful is that we have been here before....We must honor these men by doing more to care for our fellow Americans living with mental illness.” close
