Labor Secretary Thomas Perez testified before a Senate Appropriations subcommittee on his department’s fiscal year 2015 $11.8 billion budget proposal. The proposal includes discretionary spending to improve job training and employment programs. In opening remarks, Secretary Perez said one of the most complex challenges for his department involved long-term unemployment. He applauded the Senate action on unemployment benefits but said more needed to be done to help workers. close
