Principal Deputy Assistant Energy Secretary for Fossil Energy Chris Smith talked about the challenges of offshore drilling in the Gulf and the Arctic with regard to safety and regulations. He said that as energy companies and technologies advanced, the government needed to do the same with its regulations.

This was a keynote speech at “Navigating the Oil Frontier: The Implications of the Tight Oil Boom on Arctic and Ultra-Deepwater Oil Development,” an event on energy development held by the Bipartisan Policy Center at the Washington Court Hotel. It was session four of the “New Geopolitics of Petroleum and Natural Gas Series.” close
