Government Nutrition Programs
This was a keynote address of the Consumer Federation of America’s 37th annual National Food Policy Conference at the Omni Sheraton Hotel in Washington, D.C.
Agriculture Under Secretary of Food, Nutrition, and Consumer Services Kevin Concannon talked about government programs for fighting hunger such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), and school lunches and breakfasts. He said that the hunger problem could not be solved with food programs alone and expressed support for the president’s efforts to increase the minimum wage.
