State Department officials and others testified on the worsening situation in the Central African Republic (CAR). They discussed famine, the difference between peacekeeping and security, getting food and resources to people, protecting women and children, and training CAR police. They stressed the importance of additional funding to support humanitarian efforts in the region and the need for more international cooperation. Subcommittee Chair Christopher Smith (R-NJ) told panelists the crisis was getting demonstrably worse and was underfunded. close
